Whatever Happened to Thanksgiving?

It seems like in the past week or so, stupid holiday controversies have sprung up once again like they seem to do every year.

The giant one this year is a video that has gone viral of former pastor, and all around conservative Christian nut job Joshua Feuerstein, ranting and raving about how horrible Starbucks is… get this…

…for removing secular Christmas symbols (like snowflakes and reindeer) from it’s coffee cups and accusing the secular business coffee chain of attacking Christmas and, therefore, Christians and Jesus Christ Himself. 

I mean, yes, Joshua Feuerstein scrapes at the bottom of the barrel and will take any situation and completely blow it out of proportion just to get some views and some likes on Facebook from other intolerant, close-minded people like himself. But, this one really takes the cake.

What he calls the #MerryChristmasStarbucks movement is not a loving movement of Christians embodying the gospel of Jesus Christ with the goal of truly loving their neighbors, but a hollow “call to arms” of “putting Christ back in Christmas”… as if He ever left in the first place.

You see, it’s dumb, superficial acts like these that make people wonder “Why would I ever want to be a Christian?” And that’s truly heartbreaking for me, as a Christian, to witness.

But there is something more disturbing and heartbreaking to me that doesn’t even have to do with Christmas…

…its the seemingly disappearing holiday of Thanksgiving from mainstream American culture…
